It's time for Tarheel Sports Car Club's final rallycross of the season, and it's gonna be a good one! It will be held next Saturday (not this Saturday), November 3rd at our fun Four Oaks site. We will have a bit of a Halloween theme for this one, including a special surprise at the end of competition. We don't want to give it all away, but here's a bit of a hint: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=415AKZGr1toIt's pretty hard to see, but that was a 1 gallon jug of water going up there. Event info, including times, prices, and directions can be found at: http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/2007/2007-1103info.htmlOnline registration is highly recommended, and is fast and easy. Do that here: http://thscc.com/rallycross/prereg_rallyx.htmlHope to see y'all there! Carl

Just a reminder that THSCC has a rallycross coming up this Saturday, September 22nd, at our great Orange County Speedway site in Rougemont, NC. This site is large and firm and fast and does not rut, though it can be dusty if it's dry. It has some nice elevation change which is fun to drive. Details on this event, including times, prices, and directions, can be found at http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/2007/2007-0922info.htmlOnline pre-registration makes sure you've got a spot reserved and makes the registration process go more quickly on event day morning. It's fast and easy- highly recommended! Do that here: http://thscc.com/rallycross/prereg_rallyx.htmlSpectators are welcome, they are free and do not need to register. Just show up and find a good spot. For you race fans, there will be a race later (at 7pm) on the Orange County Speedway 3/8 mile oval. Those cars are loud and fast and fun to watch- come on out and stay for the whole day! Hope to see y'all there! Carl

Just a reminder that this event is coming up this Saturday, August 11th. It's at our Orange County Speedway site, which we like a lot because it doesn't get rutted up. I also wanted to remind y'all that there will be racing on OCS's oval track later that evening. Billed as America's Fastest 3/8 Mile Track, there is sure to be lots of good (and loud!) action there. The track racing starts at 7pm. Spectating is free at the rallycross, so bring your friends and family along and make a full day of it and see what this fast-growing new sport is about. Full information, including times, prices, and directions, can be found at http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/2007/2007-0811info.htmlThe event is starting to fill up, so if you want to compete, please sign up online and reserve yourself a spot. We have a 50 car entry limit, and we hit it at our last event. We can not guarantee that every walk-up will be able to get in if the event fills up. The process is quick and painless, and you can remove yourself later if you need to. Find that form at http://thscc.com/rallycross/prereg_rallyx.htmlHope to see y'all there! Carl

Rallycross season is at full boil now! Event Chairs Simon and Kieran Wright are proud to bring you "Beat The Heat", our fourth points event of the season. It's coming up fast, on Saturday, June 23rd. Like our last event, it'll be held at the BMW Farm in Clayton, NC. The event was so-named because it's happening around the Summer Solstice, mid-summer's day, and it might be super-hot, so make sure you bring plenty of fluids, sunscreen, and some of your own shade because you won't find any otherwise! Once again, Christine will be serving lunch on site, with a meal of subs (choice of ham or turkey), chips, drink and dessert on sale for $5.00. Registration for this event is now open and details, including times, prices, and directions, can be found at http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/2007/2007-0623info.htmlIf you like to breeze through registration on event day morning, we encourage you to sign up online- it's really easy. You can even pay online with credit card or Paypal and simplify your life even more! You can find that online signup form at http://thscc.com/rallycross/prereg_rallyx.htmlHope to see y'all there! Just a quick note to remind you that our next rallycross event is coming up this Saturday at the "BMW Farm" in Clayton, NC. We'll be using an area we used once before last year, but this time we'll have twice as much space! This site is a fun one because we have some decent elevation change that we can take advantage of in the course design. Find full details at http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/2007/2007-0512info.htmlWe've currently got plenty of room under our 50-car entry limit, but if you think you'll come we'd appreciate if you'd sign up online. It helps us know how much lunch stuff to bring, and to save time coming up with a run group split. Registration can be done online and is fast and easy- you can even pay with Paypal or credit card! Do that at http://thscc.com/rallycross/prereg_rallyx.htmlHope to see y'all there! Carl

Well it was taking me too long to get around to making a highlight video, so I just decided to make the individual driver clips instead. They should all be up on Google Video now, although it doesn't look like they're all indexed yet because the search (below) doesn't return all of them yet. All I can say is, if you don't find your clip with this search, wait a day or 2 then try again. If you still don't see it then let me know and I'll see if I can figure out what happened. Thanks, and enjoy! http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=THSCC+Rallycross+03%2F25%2F2007P.S. The "dust cape" that I had the camera in muffled the engine sounds a bit, and also added these "crinkling" noises- hopefully they're not too distracting.

Events / Rallycross / THSCC Rallycross School and Rallycross - March 24-25

on: March 26, 2007, 05:03:01 AM

It was a perfect weekend for rallycrossing, and 21 students took advantage of the school on Saturday. Everyone got a ton of runs at each of 3 stations, which we connected together in the afternoon, then everyone got 7 runs on that! Everyone seemed to really have a good time, and the students' speed was clearly greatly improved. Sunday was another beautiful day, and we set a new attendance record with 45 drivers coming out to enjoy a pair of fast but challenging courses. The surface at the Orange County Speedway site lived up to its expections and hardly rutted at all, becoming hard and very grippy once the topsoil was all gone. Results for Sunday's competition are now posted online at http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/index.htmlOur next event is Saturday, May 12th in Clayton, NC. Hope to see someof y'all there! Carl

Our rallycross school and rallycross are coming up next weekend on the 24th and 25th of March, and I've got good news and bad news for you: The bad news is that we already hit our entry limit of 24 students. The good news is that we're recruited 2 more instructors so we're able to bump our entry limit up to 28! That's right, math whizzes, we're planning to have only 2 students per instructor, and since 1 student will be working at any given time, that means you willl be getting 1-on-1 instruction from some of the best rallycrossers in the area! BUT, if your plan was to just show up on the day of the school expecting to get in, I would seriously suggest you go online and get on the entry list (even if it's only on the waiting list) as soon as possible. Some folks are bound not to show up, and we will be giving people who have pre-registered priority over walk-ups. In the meantime we'll be seeing what we can do to accommodate everyone who want to attend. Again, find that registration page at http://thscc.com/rallycross/prereg_rallyx.htmlthere you'll also find links to the event info pages for each day's events. Sunday's event is also filling up well, but we've still got plenty of room for more folks there. I can promise you a fast and fun course that will not get rutted up like some of our other sites do! Hope to see y'all there! Carl

Hey y'all, Lots of folks have reqested that we put on a rallycross school early in the year. So on Saturday, March 24th we'll be having one on the grounds of Orange County Speedway, near Roxboro, NC. This will be an "all-purpose" school, suitable for: - n00bs who want to see what the sport is about and get a good start
- more experienced drivers who want to discover and correct bad habits they might have developed
- experienced drivers who have specific features/items they'd like to work on
We will have instructors of all levels available who want to make you a better rallycrosser! Class size will be very limited, so sign up now! More details on the school can be found at http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/2007/2007-0324info.htmlThen, on Sunday we'll be having a regular rallycross competition at the same site, where Saturday's students will get a chance to apply the lessons they learned and hopefully take home a trophy! Information about Sunday's event can be found at http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/2007/2007-0325info.htmlWe are looking into hotel and camping options in the area and will add that information to the web pages when it's available. In the meantime, signing up online is highly recommended, as space is limited and the online registrants have priority over walk-ups. It's quick and easy, and you can even pay (Paypal, Echeck, or credit card) online if you want! Do that at http://thscc.com/rallycross/prereg_rallyx.htmlHope to see y'all there! Carl

Happy New Year Y'all! Hope you've been enjoying the off season because it's just about over, at least for rallycross... We'll be kicking off our 4th full rallycross season on Saturday, February 3rd at our great Four Oaks site, close and convenient to both I-40 and I-95. No changes are planned this year for our classes- we are still using the same 6 classes as in 2006. SU2, SO2, and SO4 for street-tire-shod cars, and NU2, NO2, and NO4 for snow tire, rally tire, and other knobby tired cars. See our class rules at http://thscc.com/rallycross/info/rallyx_rules.html#classes for full descriptions. Registration is now open for the Feb 3rd event, so please check it out! I've added raw footage from each driver at the 12/3/2006 event to Google video, so if you want to see what you (or someone else) looked like out there, this should give you a much better idea than from looking at the highlight video. To find the clips, go to http://video.google.com and search for "THSCC Rallycross 12/3/2006". Scroll through the list to find the footage you're looking for. Enjoy! Carl

Despite some early concerns about the weather, we held the event as scheduled, and it was a lot of fun! 33 drivers, plus a a pretty decent crop of spectators, turned out to check out the inaugural event at the site. As the early drivers tore the grass off the virgin field, times started to suffer as they exposed some slick, still-wet clay underneath, but soon that started to dry off, and by the afternoon speeds were improving. The elevation changes were a lot of fun, and there were virtually no ruts created, so the consensus was that we should definitely return to this site for future events. Results are posted now at http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/index.htmlIt's the last event on the page, "Rallycross ROCS". Thanks to all of you who came out to an event this year and kept our program growing, and hope to see you again in 2007! Carl

Just a reminder that THSCC's final rallycross of the 2006 season, and our debut event at Orange County Speedway is coming up this Sunday, December 3rd. We would like to have a good turnout to show the owners of the site that rallycrosses are a new and exciting form of motorsports competition, and help them see the potential of the sport as a business opportunity for them. So not only would we like you to come out, but bring some friends to crew or spectate! The track facility will be making food available for sale to us. As you may recall, we had to cancel our November 12th at this site at the event due to heavy rains that made the course impassable. With a chance of rain in the forecast for Thursday and Friday, we will be assessing the course conditions on Saturday morning and making a decision at that time whether to hold the event on Sunday or not. Notification of event status will be handled in 2 ways: - Competitors who have signed up online will be notified by email either way- go or no-go.
- The "Tarheel Tire Chirps" popup on the main page at www.thscc.com will be updated with a notice only if the event is canceled. If you use a popup blocker, you will need to click the "Tarheel Tire Chirps" link centered below the club logo.
If you want to sign up online, it's quick and easy and can be done at http://thscc.com/rallycross/prereg_rallyx.htmlEvent details, including schedules, prices and directions, can be found at http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/2006/2006-1203info.htmlThanks, and hope to see you there! Carl

OK folks, we are rescheduling the rained-out November 12th event at Orange County Speedway for Sunday, December 3rd! We had a great crowd show up in the pouring rain back on the 12th, and I think everyone who saw the site was excited about running there. Now, with a little help from Mother Nature, we will be! So come on out and help us show the folks at OCS that rallycross events can draw a crowd, and start our relationship with them off right! Even if you can't compete, I hope you'll come out to spectate and check out the place. Onine registration for the event is now open and, although not mandatory, we do we appreciate when y'all sign up online. It helps us know the size of the event, set up run groups in advance, and of course notify you if something important happens. Now that we know a bit more about the site, we will be making the decision about whether we need to cancel this event by noon on Saturday, December 2nd. Find information about this rallycross, including times, prices, and directions, at http://thscc.com/rallycross/events/2006/2006-1203info.htmlThe online sign-up form (even pay with Paypal if you want!) is found at http://thscc.com/rallycross/prereg_rallyx.htmlHope to see you there! What a bummer- we had to cancel the event! We set up a great course on Saturday in beautiful weather, then got up this morning to pouring rain. Still, we run our events "rain or shine", so we got out there and started setting up.
As competitors started to arrive, we got our first inkling that it was not going to be a good day for racing. At least 1 guy got his tow vehicle stuck in the totally flat pit area! The course we so soft and wet that water would puddle around your shoes with each step. A few 4WD cars went out on course for test runs, and they were barely able to even maintain forward progress, it was so bad. We were facing the prospect of pulling the 2WD cars out of the mud all day and the 4WD competitors not having any fun, and digging huge ruts in this pristine field, effectively ruining our first choice of course designs!
By 8:45 we had probably 25 competitors there (and no spectators), which we figured was about all we were going to get. We convened a drivers meeting and decided to cancel the event. Some folks drove more than 3 hours to attend so I felt really bad about that, but everyone seemed to agree it was the right decision.
Of course in this case we were surprised by the forecast (showers were supposed to roll through Sat night but be dry today), but now we know that this field just won't tolerate any heavy rain for at least 3-4 days before an event. When that happens in the future, we'll save ourselves some time and cancel the event in advance.
Sorry for any of y'all who drove out there to spectate but found us gone.
Thanks, Carl
