We had our last autocross of the season on the 1st. There are other clubs as well, TSCC has an event planned for Virginia Motorsports Park, (VMP), this weekend , I believe. More info is on VMSC's facebook page.

You have to be an automotive "insider". In other words, no tickets are actually sold to the general public. I went in 2014 with my nephew who worked for a paint distributor. There are probably people that can help you get in.

General / Classifieds / Open trailer
|

I've bought a bigger trailer, and I'm looking to sell my old one. It has a good history with the club having hauled several members cars at one time or another. (you'll never realize how many friends you have until you own one!). It's hauled Jeeps, several RX-7's, Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaros, Miatas, a pair of Spitfires, one Morgan, BMW's of many flavors, almost all of my stuff, tractors, a backhoe, a roof mounted HVAC unit, lumber, tree stumps, and scrap metal, and more. A favorite was helping deliver Engelberts "Froggy". Payment was in the form of beer and gas money. (My standard fee). Anyway, it's a well constructed homebuilt 16' with 3' dovetail. 7,000# mobile home axles, with repacked, or new bearings. Newer tires, 2 5/16 coupling, spare tire and I plan to paint it. It has hauled some truly incredible loads and tows great. Currently has a brake issue. Right now $1000.00 will take it, if I repair the brakes, and get it inspected the price will go up substantially.

A friend has 2 Vee's for sale. One is pretty new with somewhere around $8,000 in the chassis alone. the other, older car was bought for parts, will run, but needs brake, clutch, and fuel lines flushed a good freshening up. Also has a 20, or 24 foot,(I forget), goose neck trailer, with heat, AC, and bunks. He's asking $1,000 for the older car, $4,000 for the newer car, (with a fresh engine), or $10,000 for all of it. And there is quite a bit. Has log books. Race, or autocross them. His son raced, but now has a family, and has moved on. His name is Rob Ashley.

General / Technical Help / Re: Looking for cheap track tires

The best I've had on my Camaro were the NT01's. I've used Kumho Victoracers, V710's, Hoosier A3's, A6's, and the NT05's I hate. Like Justin was saying they stick very well, and last for ever. I had them on the Monza I drove in my SCCA schools. They showed very, very little wear. Dollar for dollar, I think they're the best tire out there. I'll probably go back to them.

They're allowed. Or they were back in 2012 or so. Plans for next year are up in the air.....a new car, a different car that I already own, or some work on the Camaro.

Events / Autocross / Ice driving...

I have to be honest...I have never been comfortable autocrossing my Camaro. I've been competing with it since 2003, and haven't been happy with the way I've driven it in more than 15 events, (and there are a lot of events in that length of time!). It has 1 or 2 PAX FTD's to it's credit, and many top 10 indexed finishes over the years. But yesterday? Geez. Four seasons on tires that weren't real good to start with, and the discovery of yet another broken front sway bar pillar bracket made for a handful. (Once I got it home). I did notice the course workers hiding behind poles when I was on the course, and I don't blame them. On the plus side, I'm ready for winter driving. I turned 14,000 miles on the car driving home.

I'm tossing out some old racing posters. I know there is a Stroh's Capri, a Camel GT, Raybestos NASCAR, Wally Hilldebrand's Indy Car and several others. They are not perfect. I can bring to next weeks event if anyone wants them.
