Cool, I signed up for Sunday only.
Gunny
Are you taking your R-comps or street tires? I'm driving there on street tires. I think I have found a way to get my hoosiers there. Gunny

[I'm working on fixing the classes and who's is in them and what caused the issue (I think I know why this happened)
Is it related to why the raw time chart goes up to 79, but the pax time chart goes up to 84? (I'm just glad you get to do this and not me - sounds like a rat's nest of formulae.) I'm not sure how to fix this. getting with Jeff and Justin.

also, Sam Banks, number 126, should be in STS N. not real important if you can't do it just because i'm telling you. he won't email about it though.
thanks, I can take care of that! Gunny

Thank you, Robert. There are also a bunch of Corvettes in GS.
Yea I saw that. So I verified the raw and pax (pax multiplier) and those look good (pax is what we use for scoring) I'm working on fixing the classes and who's is in them and what caused the issue (I think I know why this happened) Gunny

General / Technical Help / Brake Rotors
|
on: June 02, 2013, 08:15:33 PM

Just thought I would put this out here. So a couple of weeks ago a few of us did a hpde at VIR (great fun!)
Got the car back home and started cleaning it up and inspecting as much as I can.
Front pads (hawk hp plus) pretty much toast! Could have maybe done another day on them at the track. I got the pads from John H so I really dont know the miles on them but they had plenty of pad when I put them on friday morning before driving up to the track. Rear pads are good.
Rotors! Front rotors had a whole bunch of tiny cracks (see picture) on them and I noticed that my car was loud under braking, nothing shaking the steering wheel or car and the brake pedal was fine, but it was a really loud shuddering noise kinda like driving on tires that have been cupped. So I did a bunch of research and most say it's normal for the small micro cracks to appear on rotors that have gotten hot. From what I have read drilled rotors cool unevenly and are more prone to cracking! Anyhow I put on the oem rotors that have about 25k on them and Hawk hps pads and all is good!
So my new rotors (well semi new, put them on last year) are cracked and warped, they are in the trash as I typed this! I didn't spend that much money on them so It wasnt a big deal. So my question is this. For AutoX it seems like OEM and the cheaper rotors are ok. Are the more expensive rotors better? Do they resist cracking at a track day? So for me there are two options, buy cheap rotors and replace them after a track event or go high dollar and get some nice two piece rotors? I've seen pictures of high dollar rotors cracking to.
Any thought's or input would be helpful

I combined the videos from Justin and Robert, using Justin's best lap from his video. I started both videos at start/finish and you can see how Robert makes up a good amount of time on the straight after Oak Tree. The times shown at the end of the video are my best estimate going frame by frame at start/finish. I hope you enjoy: http://youtu.be/WOj-lQjteB0?hd=1That was pretty cool! Justin is way fast! He ran faster later on, I think like a 2:18 or so. we compared laps and I could not keep up (rcomps vs. street) most G's I could pull was about .93 and he was above 1.00. dosent matter though we could have swapped cars and he still would have ran faster! That video was cool! I'm working on mine (I'm not cool or fast enough to have someone take one of my car!), Yea so Marc gets the pretty girl taking pictures in his car, justin has the whole pits watching! and checking out the wagon! (it was great that a 10k car was walking all over the 150k cars!) The only person besides me who liked my car was my instructor, what gives? anyhow. I'm trying to get the gps data merged with my video, its done but its playing back at double speed. I'll post it when its done. Gunny

What a great time! It took a while to get smooth on the throttle! (AutoX habits are hard to break) Once I did though I got pretty fast. Fun times, will post a video soon, I'm trying to get data and video put together for my fast laps. Did a 2:24 in my last session today. We think its a pretty good street tire time for my car.
Good times, fun people and a cool track!
Thanks to Bud, Justin, Beth, Marc, Audie and Jeff for a fun time!

I'm still not in the results. it's not a huge deal because i'm not going for points, but it would be nice to see where i ended up with a certainty.
John Krom #29
John Your in the results as number 65, I don't really know what happened with your entry. anyhow looks like you did pretty good. I also moved Lonnie out of AM and put him in CS, I put keath is ssp too. use the links like I posted earlier to access gunny Not to be a whiney ninny but can my 2-5 runs be DNF'ed and leave me in STU? This will keep all of my points in STU for the season. Thanks sure, not a problem. Gunny
