So, I'm looking at the map and is appears that there are two ways to get to VIR from Route 360... The first is to take Rt 119 (Calvary Rd), the 2nd is to take Rt 62 (Milton Hwy). Anyone have a recommendation which is the more RV friendly route? Which way would a tractor/trailer go?

Instructor assignments have been posted, same DE Documents page.
They'll be announced at the drivers' meeting Friday morning, so it's optional whether you print or even look at the list before you go. I don't recognize the names of any of our instructors (mine included) so I can't offer any insights.
My biggest concern is how big the guy is... it would be just my luck to end up with a 6 foot, 250 lb instructor that doesn't fit in my tiny car! It's not like I have a voluminous 911 that can carry me and a weekend load of gear!!!

We should try and block off the left (east) end of that section, from the light post to the street. I cant really tell how big an area that is, but from google maps it looks like we should have plenty of room to fit all the cars and trailers in it. I'll try and park the RV against the light post as that is where the electric hook up is.

I'm planning to get there Thursday afternoon. The last email said the site won't open for us until 5:30, but I'm gonna try and get in a bit earlier than that.
I'm hoping to get a spot in section 5 of the map Beth posted, next to the utility site marked 84. I'm not sure I want to park the RV, trailer & car in the 1 or 2 sections as I assume they will be fairly busy and I don't want to take up too much room.

So, is everyone ready for the big weekend and where is everyone staying? I'm gonna trailer the Lotus behind my RV, and stay in the RV in the North Paddock parking lot. All I need to do is pay a general camping fee of $50 and $25 for 50A electric hook up for the 3-day event. So, I'll have a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave etc.) and plenty of storage if anyone needs it... you can even sit in the A/C and watch satellite TV between heats!

The Pearl passed her pre-track exam!
New oil, new brake fluid, topped off coolant. Everything else in good shape.
(And I put the track inspection form in the glove compartment, to make *sure* I don't forget it.)
I did mine last week at a local speed shop run by a guy that does track events so he was familiar with the form. Changed all the fluids the previous weekend. I don't have a glove box.. so I made a scan of the document and emailed it to myself!

BTW you should be getting an email today from FSR telling you they've uploaded the schedule and "info pack". You'll want to download both of these; the info pack is a PDF with the latest rules & regs including what to bring and where to bring it. The schedule tells you when. I usually bring a couple of copies of the schedule to the track, one to carry around with me and the other to replace it when it gets crumpled and unreadable. Yep, I got the same email: The Event Information Pack, a pdf document which includes event specifics and all required forms, the event schedule and tech form have been posted in the Documents section of the FSR website, a track map and DE Student Tips are available as well. Direct link to the DE documents is provided below: http://www.fsrpca.org/drivers-education/de-documents.html See you at the track!

I *think* you only need the medical form if you don't already have your info in motorsportreg.com, but I'll check on that to make sure.
Is there another form I've forgotten?
Well, I'm not sure.... the FSR web site has tech, medical, and student & instructor eval forms, but I'm not certain that we need all of them. But I'd planned to bring them just in case.

I don't think so - your dad dropped out of blue, not green. I *think* it's on a per-run-group basis, since it depends on how many instructors they have. Unless they convinced a blue instructor to go green.
Yep, they had to have a green group driver drop out for me to get in.

I noticed that also. But did I receive an email from MotorsportsReg saying:
Marc, This is a receipt for your WAITLISTED event registration on MotorsportReg.com: FSR Spring 2013 Drivers Ed At VIR PCA - First Settlers May 17, 2013 - May 19, 2013 Virginia International Raceway, Alton, VA
I emailed the event register, he says I'm #1 on the wait list!

"First question: Can you all get to this page? http://www.fsrpca.org/de-documents.html" Yes, the page has open access. I downloaded the "Driver’s Education Technical Inspection Form" under DE Documents and it states that the Pre-Tech Inspection is "To be performed by a professional mechanic or club approved tech inspector within 30 days of the event" So it appears that it doesn't have to be done at any particular shop, just performed by a "professional mechanic"?

I have a twelve temperature tire pyrometer that I use for setting tire pressures. Although it's really designed to help dial in alignment settings it's still pretty useful for determining your optimum tire pressure settings.
The way it works is after a run you insert a small probe into the tire tread to read the "core" temperature at three locations on the tire: inside edge, center, and outside edge. You do this at all four corners. Basically you want to get uniform heating of the tire across it's width by adding or removing pressure. Of course, if your camber challenged (like most stock class cars are) your outside edge will always be hotter... so you then average the outside & inside temps and compare that with the middle temperatures.
This only gets you close, you then have to add or remove pressure to balance the car to your liking. I have the pyrometer with me at most events so if anyone wants to try it, come ask me for it!

Awesome !! I've always wanted to do one. Why did the nice lady scan your head ?
SCCA events (Nationals', National Tours & Pro Solo's) place a driver unique bar code on your helmet. They scan each driver's helmet at the start line and the data is sent electronically to the timing and scoring computer to confirm who is running.
